Gangotri is one of the char Dham and it is home to the temple of Ma Ganga on the banks of the Bhagirathi that takes its name after King Bhagiratha who performed penance here to bring down Ganga Mata from the heavens to wash away the sins of his ancestors. Gangotri is at a height of 3100 meters in Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand and, surprisingly, the Bhagiratha takes a slightly northward turn before descending to join the Alaknanda. A typical itinerary goes like this:

Day 1: Delhi-Haridwar

Arrive in Delhi to a warm welcome by our tour representative who escorts you to the coach for the onward 225 km drive to the holy city of Haridwar. On arrival check into your room and refresh yourself. In the evening we set off on a walk to the banks of the Ganga and Har Ki Pauri for the wonderful sight of the evening Aarti and Pooja. Stroll around local markets and buy something to remember the city before retiring for the night.

Day 2: Haridwar-Harsil

Guests love to snack on hot Samosas and Jalebis, a typical north Indian breakfast before boarding the coach for the 290 km drive to Harsil where you arrive late in the evening. On the way, we stop at Uttarkashi, home of Lord Shiva for a brief Darshan. We also take a break at the village of Dharali, famous for its apple orchards, and admire the scenery spread below. Arrive in Harsil and check-in for the night.

Day 3: Harsil-Gangotri-Harsil-Uttarkashi

Enjoy a hearty breakfast because you will need all your strength to walk to Gangotri up an incline. Along the way, the devout are free to take a dip in the Bhagirathi at Devighat, obligatory before entering the holy Gangotri temple for Darshan. After this, the group returns to Harsil for rest before proceeding to Uttarkashi where we check into a hotel for the night.

Day 4: Uttarkashi-Haridwar

The cool air sharpens your appetite and you enjoy a hearty breakfast. Board the coach for the 177 km drive that will take 7 hours before we reach Haridwar. On the way, we have a pleasant interlude at the fruit market of Chamba. Check into your hotel and explore the surrounding parts of the city or go to the Ghats.

Day 5: Haridwar-Delhi

Breakfast and board the coach for the return 210 km drive to Delhi where the tour representative bids you a farewell and hopes you will rejoin us on another tour.
