Travel and Tourism in India
Chardham stand out as one of the most vital pilgrimage destinations of the country and is steeped in great spiritual significance for the Hindus. The four Dham of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath are collectively named as ‘Chardham’, a Yatra of which is believed to lead one to ‘Moksha’ or salvation for sure. The four Dham are set across the high altitudes of Garhwal Himalayas and reaching each of these Dham could be a real challenge. The hilly, mountainous terrain and steep routes try your tenacity each moment. The Chardham Yatra route consists of both motor-able roads as well as non-motor-able roads on which one could traverse only by trekking.
As you proceed on the Chardham Yatra route, you’ll have to move across many other important and religiously significant towns of the ‘Divya Bhoomi’ of Uttarakhand that fall on the Chardham route. For instance, if you are starting your Yatra from Haridwar, you’ll first have to reach Barkot and then trek your way to Yamunotri Dham. Post Darshan you have to return to Barkot and then move towards Uttarkashi in order to reach the pathway leading to Gangotri Dham. Post Darshan at Gangotri you are to return to Uttarkashi and then move towards Kedarnath via Rudraprayag. Post Darshan at Kedarnath you are to return to Rudraprayag from where you can proceed directly on to the pathway leading to Badrinath Dham, the last of the Chardham. Post Badrinath Darshan, you can drive your way back to Rishikesh/Haridwar and there ends your Chardham Yatra.
